From its ouset, the new Luftwaffe was planned as a tactical instrument designed to provide air support to the Army in what was assumed would be a short war. With that in mind the Germans never got around developping long distance bombers. In this programme, which covers combat operations from North Africa through to Northern Norway, and the Atlantic approaches to the Battle of Stalingrad, the role of the Luftwaffe’s bombing in the period of Germany’s military expansion between 1939 and 1942 is told employing dramatic and graphic footage.
