Oberstleutnant 5th FJ Division, Battle of the Bulge 1944

In December 1944, 5. FJ Division moved to Offenburg near Prum in the Eifel to take part in the Ardennes Offensive. The operation was code named “Wacht am Rhein” under the leadership of Oberst Heilman and fought in the Vianden sector, Wiltz and Bastogne. After the failure of the offensive, the Battalion withdrew eastwards to Eichsfeld near Duderstadt where the remainder of the Battalion went into Captivity.
